Marlo Grosshardt sings with bold provocation about the world around him. The 23-year-old from Hamburg wraps his critical lyrics in a gritty pop sound. His powerful voice carries us through nostalgic melodies and infectious rhythms.
His debut album “Ein letztes Liebeslied” is a dystopian outlook—dramatic in its staging, yet hauntingly beautiful. Divided into two acts, the first part revolves around love and the romantic end of the world: a kind of resignation in the face of the dystopia Marlo envisions. “Let’s drink to the end coming soon,” he sings. This is followed by tales of failed offshore tax evasions in a finite world.
In the second act, Marlo returns to the here and now. The stories become vivid, provocative, and specific. “Jungfernstieg”captures a moment between two young people caught in the illusion of wealth and love. “Angestellt sein” sings of the daily grind of working life. In “Christian Lindner,” Marlo vents his frustration with liberalism—without ever becoming preachy.
The tour accompanying the album was a major success. Most shows were sold out, with some even being upgraded to larger venues. With his thought-provoking lyrics, Marlo has the ability to deeply move his audience, while also getting the crowd dancing alongside his fantastic band.
In January of this year, he also released the reflective single “Ein Spiel” (feat. piya), during which he launched a fundraising campaign in support of Sea-Watch.
